  5. Powerhouse 4GL is a proven fourth-generation language (4GL) designed to produce
  6. complete, sophisticated commercial applications. It works with PowerHouse
  7. Interbase, the relational database management system from Borland, and C-ISAM,
  8. which provides inter-operability with file and database management systems on
  9. hardware vendors' platforms. In addition to this, Cognos is now offering a new
  10. client/server version of its PowerHouse application development environment.
  11. These applications support both terminals and PCs running MS Windows networked
  12. to UNIX servers. PowerHouse 4GL builds interactive screen-based transaction
  13. processing systems, volume processing applications, and complex reports.
  14. PowerHouse 4GL is the foundation of a complete application development
  15. environment from Cognos that includes multiple database, file management,
  16. client/server support, and CASE tools. These tools provide access to corporate
  17. data in three ways: through Intuitive Query, Intuitive Applications, and
  18. desktop Executive Information Systems (EIS). Each uses graphical user
  19. interfaces (GUIs) to shorten learning curves, clearly and concisely present
  20. data, and integrate with other desktop applications such as spreadsheets.
